I wake up early and at
6.30 am, I hear a boat approaching. I go out. This is a Swedish boat coming
slowly. The lady asked, almost in a whisper, if they can came along us. Of course.
I grab their ropes. They come from Fedje, an island just north of Bergen . And I see that
the free space near the pier is now occupied.
We get up around 7.30
am. Jens goes and buys the newspaper and
chocolate rolls.
We walk into town, the
weather is mild. Lerwick is a city built of gray stone. We find again the main
street (Commercial Street ),
the tourist office, the store that has everything (Harry's Department Store).
Not only do they have everything, but an incredible selection of everything!
Lunch on the boat. Our
Swedish neighbors are still asleep.
Then Jens repairs our bikes,
mine is flat and his has a problem with his derailleur. We ride a bike tour, keeping
well on the left side of the road. We go to the Coop supermarket. We buy what
we need for dinner, especially salad. Ours, taken from our garden with roots
and earth comes to an end.
I make a good dinner,
chicken legs (frozen, from home) with olives, potatoes, salad and raspberries.
We dine out.
Several boats arrived
and the harbour is full
A Norwegian sailboat
with five young guys on board wants to leave early tomorrow morning and
exchange places with the Faroese boat. These five guys had many problems
between Norway
and here, their anchor broke loose and bumping into the hull, made a hole in it.
They didn’t realize it right away and the boat filled with water. So the engine
and all electronics equipments drowned. They had to call the Coast Guard to the
rescue. Two of these five guys are the same who had rowed from Florø in a small
boat last year.
After dinner, our
Swedish neighbors return. We invite them for a drink. Ulf and Pia are about 55
years old and sail south. Their boat, Clary is an old sailboat over 40 years
old, a good boat. They had sailed around Svalbard
previously. We sympathize and spend a good evening.
